Totes in. Brek, are you in? Pls bring us keys and check so Dom can make your yard pretty.
For Sun we could do Olea, by Sara's old place; return to the Latino place on Vanderbilt by Mytrle; try something new on Vanderbilt by Peter; or try Sara's new nabe. xo
Thistle Hill Tavern Yeah, yeah: Chefs are supposed to be the new rock stars. But, in the case of this Euro-Mediterranean eatery in Park Slope, the opposite holds true: "Fat Mike" Burkett, a member of punk band NOFX, is a co-owner, along with a Niagara Bar vet and two alums from 'inoteca. OK, Burkett's not really the chef per se—'inoteca's Rebecca Weitzman wears the toque—but together the crew hopes "to establish an [updated] old-world tavern [that uses] as many local purveyors as possible," says co-owner David Massoni (he's the other 'inoteca dude). The locavore-ishness is there, all right: in the Nancy's Hudson Valley Camembert that's part of the cheese plate; in the Brooklyn Brewery Pennant Ale used to steam their blue mussels; and in the grass-fed LaFrieda beef burger that's jammed into their housemade potato roll. In keeping with the old-timey feel, the bar's mahogany surface was salvaged from an old loft in Springfield, Mass., and there's even a bench from the Brooklyn Family Courthouse that dates back to 1964. The cocktail list is equally old world, including the namesake Thistle drink, made here with Famous Grouse scotch, Carpano Antica vermouth and Lee Brothers orange bitters. (441 Seventh Ave. at 15th St., Park Slope; 347-599-1262)
i don't know if that Thistle place is open yet? It's saying early May opening, but no confirmation. Short of determining that as a yes, Olea looks pretty good, and I also recommend Pacifico, even though I go there all the time, bc i dream about the guac.
Olea looks good - though maybe a little pricy with the tapas of it all. Let's wait to do Thistle. The french/carribean place around the corner from me - Kaz an nou - just got a rave from the Times so let's keep it on our radar. We've been to Cornelius on Vanderbilt, right? I think that's where we had the delicious mac and cheese.
What about Johnny Macks at 8th Ave and 12th St. Have we been there?
There is no F train, only an F bus, which makes me very angry.
That said, both Sidecar and Magnolia sound good and have the bonus of being walkable for me. But it is Mother's Day, so we may not just be able to walk in and sit down. So whether Magnolia or Sidecar, we should reserve.
Late addition: ran into Amy and Dan last night who raved about Lot 2 at 19th and 6th...it's american-ish and they love it. I'd be ok w sidecar though...

Or Fornino (grilled pizza), just opened at 5th & Garfield, but was written up in NY this week, so could be crowded.
I'm in. What's Olea?
Let's hold off on Fornino - never good to visit when they just open.
Turn around bright eyes
We could try this...

Chris and I like Sidecar, we've been there a couple times. They make a mean Moscow Mule too.
Meanwhile, the George Rekkers scandal is just so good.

Now that's investigative journalism done right!
magnolia or side car is fine with me. olea does seems pricey.
Nate, I will bring keys and check for Dom.

Brek is right. Ouch.
I just took a closer look, and I think of the two we should go for Sidecaar, bc it seems less 'festive', occasion-like.
Or something else entirely, given the shitshow hat will be Mother's Day in Brooklyn.
People, weigh in.
