In the Roman calendar, the term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other 8 months.
In modern times, the term Ides of March (Latin Idus Martiae) is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated, in 44 BC, the story of which was famously retold in William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. The term has come to be used as a metaphor for impending doom.
SO WHERE SHALL WE EAT?
People feeling the Roman vibe? The Gallic vibe?

I'm actually kind of surprised there isn't a new bistro called "Impending Doom," or perhaps simply "Ides," in Cobble Hill somewhere. Mulling over the Gallic idea...
Just to unfortunately make it official, Kyle and I will still be in PA next Sunday evening, entertaining all parents at Allenberry. Good times.
OK, I'll throw out one Rome-related suggestion: I've never been to Al Di La.
...and for the record, I thought you said "Gaelic" last night, which is why I suggested Chip Shop. Then again, I was tranquilized, so... I apologize to my constituents for not living up to my own standards of conversational excellence.
I did mean Gaelic actually-- and then I also meant Gallic, cause of Rome.
Funny that we had a discussion last night on which politicians are cheating on their spouses. We just forgot to think local. Then there was the Castro thing. I think we're on to something.
I'm open to anything.
hey guys: i love al di la more than is actually appropriate for a person/restaurant relationship, but it's a little pricey for me this week.
Is there another place (new or repeat) that might be cheaper?xo
I'm all for cheap. Aunt Suzy's is cheap, but you sort of get what you pay for there. There must be a better option...
HOW ABOUT LUCALI? Early, say 5:45 or 6pm?
Brek and I think it's genius.
xo weigh in.
Just to let you guys know, my friend Jamie (Claudia knows who I'm talking about) gave us a hint tonight about Lucali. You can't make a reservation, but you can call in advance night of before you arrive and they'll put you on the wait list. That way, at least, you don't have to wait there. Make sure to eat a slice for Jackie and I.
Slight wrench for me: I am interviewing Kimberly Peirce on Sunday at 5:30 (phoner, from home) so probably wouldn't be able to be anywhere till 7, realistically.
sara et al:
how bout you (sara) plan to get there by 7pm and we will get there at 6pm, put our name down, and go get a drink?
ok, people, i am humming along on this book thing and think i'll actually make it do dinner sun. sad no j & k to give me congratulation kisses, but i'm up for whatever. If Lucali is the choice, i'll come in the 2nd shift with Sara. I might humbly (since i didn't chime in early enough) propose something that's easier for me, sara and peter given writing, phone interview and jetlag (respectively), which would be something like right at 5th ave near Claudia, but i don't know what, or have time to research. I'll defer and look forward to seeing all at 7-something.
I kind of second that - the easier place suggestion - although Lucali seems a lot more manageable now that Nath is driving me. (Thanks Nathaniel!)
yeah, i'd like to third it (i know that's cheating). i will definitely have limited time for dinner, so the distance and wait time of Lucali seem better for another nite, and won't J&K really want to go? Can claud or petey suggest a cute place on 5th Ave? There's always Song (or whatever the cooler Asian place is) which is not super-inspiring but is hip enough and affordable enough.
OKAY: here's what it's going to be:
let's ALL meet at 7pm at PEPERONCINO, please. 5th avenue and St Marks. Decent Italian, decent prices, right place.
kay?
that was Claudia posting, by the by. As brekke.
perfect--sara, call me when your interview's done, but if i don't hear from you by 7:15 latest, boat is leaving--hope that's ok
