A new day

I feel like this Sunday is the beginning of SND 2.0. Maybe it was the celebratory air of SND at the Cyclones, or maybe it's the fact that we have reached mid summer and hopefully more people will be in town.

So who's in on Sunday and who is throwing out ideas for where to eat?

Oh and I look forward to discussing the controversial New Yorker Obama cover!

I am in. In in in. I don't know if it's my turn to pick but here are my two suggestions: Alma, but we would have to go early, like at 5:30, to get a table on the roof. Or Ghenet, which just opened by Sheep Station and is a favorite Ethiopian haunt in Manhattan (just became a chain in Brooklyn) of my new husband's and mine. (I put it that way since I referred to him as my boyfriend to Claude at Dark Knight. Adjustments.)

I loved Dark Knight, but I thought it was too long—and I have other things to say about it as well as want to hear other responses. Second on the agenda after the New Yorker cover?

I am sadly a maybe for this weekend, as I may be corralled into striking the 52nd Street Project show. I'll know by Sat. Keep me posted and I'll do my total best to be there!

I second the Ghenet suggestion. I propose a third topic of discussion: Generation Kill.

You are forbidden to discuss any of those fascinating topics as I am out this weekend in Martha's Vineyard celebrating David Chalian's 35th. Pete and Nathan did not send me any recs, but it's not too late to send your fave MV things my way. I'm also out the following Sunday the 27th because I have a non-SND birthday party to attend. So sadly for you all, no Brekke until August 3. I will miss you all so much.

One other idea, maybe for next week. For those of you with Iphones, how awesome are the new apps? One of them (urbanspoon) uses the GPS to track where you are, you shake the phone and it randomly picks a restaurant close to you. Many good choices came up just from the couple of times I tried it. While we're eating the non-Iphoners will have to watch us drink virtual beers with Ipint.

Ghenet sounds great - let's do it. 7pm. Jackie, Kyle, me, maybe Claudia. Nathaniel is out of town.

Also need to discuss Emmys: wonderful news for Mad Men, Damages, 30 Rock and Pushing Daisies.

Yet they inexplicably ignored The Wire and Friday Night Lights. Again. In favor of Boston Fucking Legal!!!!

Kyle - have Generation Kill on DVR and will watch before Sunday night. As for the iphone restaurant GPS ap did you see the Times piece that tried it out? Seems the iphone doesn't know certain restaurants...even when you're standing in front of it.

We will be celebrating the smasing of all box office records by The Dark Knight. On Friday we did 66!

so you guys are definitely on for Ghenet? There's a good chance I'll be out of strike in time to make it and I really want to try....

7pm?
let me know if plans change via text or call if you dont mind-- I wont be near a computer.

OK, Claude! Sure thing. Do you want us to move it back to 7:30?

Claude said...

don't worry about that-- because it'll be a matter of whether or not i can get out after the first shift-- if i can- I'm totally in/ If i can't there's no way.

But I am optimistic! Thanks for offering, too.
xx

Hey there- I got back early from Maine, so I can probably make dinner tonight. is it 7 at Ghenet, then? Claude may be without a computer, but I'm without a phone, at least until mid-afternoon (phone's dead and the charger is in Thoanna's car, which is en route to the city). Lemme know, if anyone checks here today...
