Greetings from freezingly rainy Princeton.
I know we're settled on Peter's for the GGs, but I thought I would get the ball rolling re: times, foods, assignments, etc.
Petey, I assume you're planning on opening up your home early enough for LIVE FROM THE RED CARPET (aka the best part of the whole evening)?
How do people/Peter feel on the food/booze front?
xx

I was just going to start the chain! yes please come at any time - I will be watching football starting at 1pm and gradually switching over to GG pre-show.
Haven't given much thought to food yet - but will soon.
Oh - and I am taking inauguration day off - so if any of you would like to join me for Obama viewing/gawking/loving, I would love to have you. Plus it makes for a great 4 day weekend with MLK coming the day before!
I know we're toasting Kyle on Friday, but I'd like to bring a bottle of champagne over to Pete's for a special SND toast, as our first member is departing. (I know, I know the bigger deal I make about this, the more likely he and I will be back after six weeks...) But we also have several bottles of champagne we need to drink before we move, so...
Are we then going to order in? Indian? Thai?
I know I'm probably the only person on earth who feels this way, but I don't get why the inauguration is SUCH a big deal. Are there lots more things going on than just him being sworn in? I feel like it's gonna be one of those things where Maya Angelou gets trotted out at some point. If you can make a compelling case for why I should take the day off - even only a mildly compelling one- I'd probably do it.
I am very excited for Sunday football and GGs, and Pete, I'd love to do some cookin' in your kitchen if you feel up to it. Claude and Sara and I were plotting just such a thing after dinner at Hunan Delite. Thoughts? Feelings? Wishes?
i'm with Brek-- I'd love to cook, if we can. maybe we can make a main dish and then others can make/bring sides, chips etc?
Yes - please come cook. Would be lovely. I plan to be there all day watching football, hanging out.
Jackie - yes! bring champagne to toast Kyle! so we really have all 7 SND-ers this Sunday? How exciting!
Sara - To me the inauguration is the culmination of everything we have been excited about over the last year or two. It is a time to celebrate - and maybe get teary one last time about our man Barack. It's history and I wouldn't miss it for the world.
And for the record I certainly did not plan to work this hard the first week of the new year. I mean I knew it was coming as we have event after event - but ugh! I ned a vacation! Or at least a lot of drinks at Kyle's!
I'm totally obsessed with what we're gonna eat on Sunday! I'd like to make homemade mac & cheese! Anyone else inspired?
i'd like to second that impulse. Yum. I will think as well...
omg homemade mac and cheese sounds to die for! nicely put peter, about the inauguration (tho sad you think it may be the last time we get teary about our jesus). can't wait for sun at petey's!
I'm not going to be able to cook -- one, because of time; and two, because I am literally not able to cook, but I am grateful for the cooks and will eat everything will love and great appreciation. Kyle and I can do apps (cheese and salami), snacks (chips and pretzels), and/or dessert (an array from TJ's). Claude, are you sort of managing the menu, just 'cause you're so good at it, or should we just bring a lot of stuff?
Menu thoughts:
if Brekke is cool with this, I think she and I could handle the main and that mac and cheese?
And then how about if jackie and kyle do apps/snacks? red carpet food, so to speak...
And then the rest booze (not including the champagne, of which I also have a totally nice bottle that will never be drunk if we don't kick it in honor of Kyle)
Peter and Nathaniel and Sara?
I do think we'll need something sweet, too. In addition to alcohol, which processes as sugar but is not the same thing as chocolate.
What do you guys think?xx
I am ALL OVER apps/snacks and will clean out Trader Joe's in the next day or two!
The Mac & Cheese was the main dish in my mind as it is so filling and rich. Then we can have someone do apps [Jack?], a big salad [Sara?] and dessert [anyone?] to supplement. I'll be bringing white wine because that's the only think I want to drink. That's what I was envisioning.
I will be making my famous chocolate chip cookies! So dessert is covered!
I'm still trying to think of something to make with my new crock pot. I feel like chili is the obvious answer, but how do people feel about chili?
How do I feel about chili? I LOVE chili! chili chili chili! AND it's the perfect compliment to mac and cheese!
I had so much fun seeing you all last night. Can't wait for tomorrow and our enormous feast! I am making cookie dough today so it can sit overnight for maximum goodness.
So Pete, I'm bringing the stuff over to cook the mac & cheese at yours. Will prep a bit at home in the a.m., but am planning to be at yours for about 12 hours tomorrow. See you at 1pm for Giants kickoff thru final Golden Globe award. Kyle, the Ravens! What a game! And the Cardinals look like they're gonna walk away with this game, too. I'm 0-2. Shit. PS everyone check out the 1996 Barack and Michelle interview that ran in Le Monde. It made cry!

I'm SO EXCITED for tonight. I am also now officially into football and will probably also come over early to cook with Brek and watch the game.
All sounds great. Jackie - don't forget your champagne! And are you bringing onion dip? I think Nath will bring wine and beer.
And I have plenty of chips and a little salsa-I could use some more. I also have cheese and crackers. So we need potato chips and dip as far as snacks go.
I did a snack run yesterday. This is what I have:
chips/salsa (already opened due to some hangovers over here)
3-layer humus/pita
salami/prosciutto wrapped in mozzarella/crackers
grapes
Kettle Corn
peanut butter filled pretzels (sorry, Pete, but I LOVE these)
Kyle and I won't be over that early, so you may want to get chips/dip for football watching.
We have a 1500 ml bottle of champagne (that's two bottles in one) that we need to drink, so... it's pretty freakin' huge.
Love the double champagne! I have one I'm saving for the housewarming (sorry Kyley. The pb pretzels will be eaten in the hallway.
Yes I'll bring wine and beer of some kind--the non-alcoholic kind? My plan is to come for the Eagles game then return home briefly and re-emerge for red carpet food. Go Donivan Mcnabe!!
I really hate to be pedantic but sometimes it's necessary for the greater good: For that usage it's supposed to be complement not compliment. We can discuss tonite.
One request: Can we TIVO the beginning of the GG's so we can watch the end of the Steelers Game? There should only be minimal overlap.
Jackie and I will probably march over at halftime of Stoolers/Phone Chargers. Oh yeah... I'm even pumped about Iggles/Midgets. The Ratbirds/Tits game was incredible. One of the hardest hitting/closest/grindout games I've seen in ages. In the playoffs it's better to be lucky than good.
K
Yes we will dvr beg of gg and watch end of steelers.
