Happy New Year, SND!

And happy birthday Jackie! See you all in 2009. Speaking of which, are there any plans afoot for this Sunday?

SATURDAY Night Dinner

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to all SND-ers. For this special Saturday edition of SND with my parents we will be dining at The Barn, also known as the bar area of Flatbush Farm where we enjoyed many a meal outside in the summer. My parents and I went there the night they arrived and they loved it - PLUS we were able to get a table for 7 reserved for us on a Saturday night - not an easy thing in NY, and one of the reasons we usually do this on a Sunday. Claude and Brekke you will be missed! Everyone else we will see you at 7:30.

KARAOKE!!!!!! (imagine a Japanese accent)

So. Let's deal. I'm assuming Winnie's again. I'm assuming the same delicious Thai place on the corner, too, unless someone wants to mix it up. Shall we do 7pm start time or move it a little earlier because of the evening activity? I'm open and excited for my REO Speedwagon number ;)

Daily Show and Karaoke

Oh My God John Stewart was so brilliant tonight in taking on Mike Hukabee on gay marriage and also his idiotic-sounding new book, "Do The Right Thing" in which he simply says people should treat each other nicer and we'd need less government. Stewart's defense of gay marriage would have brought me to tears if I still had the capacity to cry.

Speaking of which, Sara and I had a summit dinner tonight and she said that, because of my break-up, I could have Karaoke. I'm not sure I should need to break up with someone to get Karaoke and am instead claiming it because I missed last year (and threatened never to drive anyone home from SND again if you did it without me), but I thank Sara for her generosity and am looking very forward to belting out Candle in the Wind on Dec. 21.

Well, actually...

This ad was clearly designed by someone who's never been stuck in post-Thanksgiving Sunday traffic on a Greyhound bus.

Anyway, it totally sucked that my FOUR HOUR delay made me miss dinner last night, and I'm hoping the stars will align for a proper SND next weekend. Will the farmhouse people be back in time? Are Jackie and Kyle in? Do we want to re-try for Kif? Weigh in, people...

Chip Shop 2?

Now I'm not suggesting we actually go back to Chip Shop, but merely stating that I had such a great time there - the food, the atmosphere, the frying of every food on earth, that I think we should try and find a place similar in warmth and tastiness for this Sunday.

Thoughts?

And happy thanksgiving SND!

The First Wintry SND... Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Who's in? How about the Chip Shop on either Atlantic (at Henry and Clinton) or on 5th Ave (all the way down at 6th Street)?

Wake up SND!

The election is over - and we need to re-energize. I had plans for this Sunday but thankfully they have fallen through so I am in. I know Nathaniel is still in Scotland - but what about everyone else?

1 DAY

Just last night the nerves (finally) kicked in and I almost had a panic attack reading about PA polls. But I feel much better today - all the polls look good and I'm feeling very confident. But I'm also a total mess. Anyone else want to share their thoughts on election eve?

SEVEN DAYS AND COUNTING DOWN...

Hi everyone,
This is more of a touch-base posting. I'm off to LA in 24 hours for Nora's wedding, and I am sending you all big wishes for a great few days!
Country First! Viva Obama! Salute!

Sunday Night Birthday

Oceans 8. We can set a loose start time of 7:30/8PM.

I'm going to invite a couple of my other friends, so if anyone wants to open this one up I have no problem with that. Hope to see you all there. And we have an extra hour to rock it out since it's Daylight Savings. Woot woot!

The election

So I'd like to officially offer up my apartment for Tuesday, November 4th. My roommates would love to have all of you over. And as you know, there's plenty of couch space, big chairs and a bed to retire on when things get too stressful. Plus there are 2 bedrooms upstairs where one can go should anyone have a nervous breakdown and need privacy.

And sentimentally, I realize this is probably my last chance to have a get together at 589 and I think Obama's landslide (yes i said it!) would be the perfect way to transition to my place - which will hopefully be 477 Bergen. That's right - I am thisclose to getting the apartment next to Bergen Bagel. I think you all will love it. Here's the link:

Love you all. Loving the new polls out today. Loving everything and everyone!

SND Halloween -- Rocks the GOP

Kyle and I won't be here for Halloween and maybe we wouldn't all be hanging out at the same party anyway, but I did come up with SND Halloween costumes:

Brekke: Sara Palin
Nathaniel: Todd Palin (in dog sledding gear)
Peter: Levi Johnston (in hockey gear with a beer)
Kyle: Joe the Plumber (shave his head and wear his jeans really low; carry wrench)
Sara, Claudia, Jackie: Bristol, Minnow (or whatever it is), and Piper, which we would do by wearing short, cap sleeve, empire waist dresses and plastic headbands -- and then stuff our stomachs so that we would all be pregnant - yes, including little Piper

If Chris, who I believe is a dead ringer for Obama, wants to join, he can turn it around and be McCain.

sunday night live

What is everyone's status? We should be back from Penn State in time for dinner - and I haven't seen so many of you (esp Claudia!) in awhile and would love to get together. Especially tyhis close to the election.

So let me know who is in - and maybe we should push it a buit to 7:30 and pick a cheap and easy place.

And I know I'm the crazy optimist who said Obama would win from the beginning, but after last night I am very confident this election is effectively over. Stick a fork in McCain - he's done.

I love SND

SND makes me happy, in that: I was not happy when I returned from Philadelphia and then I went to SND and got happy, and it lasted even when I came home from SND. Thank you SND! This is not the half pitcher of mojito talking I promise.

A Very Crazy Week, Indeed

So after the dust settles after tonight's debate, I want to settle one thing: Where are we eating this Sunday night and who's in?

Monday, October 6, 2008

OMFG you guys

How cute is this blog? Cute enough to merit its own post, I reckon.

Friday, October 3, 2008

Just briefly

Are we on for this Sunday? It's Friday and, unless I'm totally spacing, we haven't discussed a venue.

Proud

Hi everyone,
I just want to say how proud and impressed I am with you all. Sunday's canvassing really moved me and reminded me why we're such a special, unique and incredible group of people. I know I'm totes mushed out right now, but I feel nothing but proud to know you all. You inspire me so much. Hope everyone can make it to Pete's for Thursday's debate. I'm going to try and get us all one of these poster for our homes/windows. Go Biden!

New String for This Sunday

Hi everyone,

As much as I love hunting through your commentary, I thought it wise to start a new string regarding this Sunday's SND. Seems like everyone is iffy (Nate/Philly, Pete/work, K&J/driving back from PA), and Claude is out/mom. Sara and I may also be beat from our day of canvassing. If the debate goes on, we can call Friday night our SND for the weekend, and whoever wants to can play Sunday night by ear? Sound good?

Also, did everyone see Letterman last night? Amazing!

They're turning on their own

George Will is becoming one of McCain's fiercest critics:
"Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?"

The Award Goes to ....

Brekke! Thanks so much for hosting last night! It was the perfect night after Kyle's and my long day. To everyone who contributed in making/bringing the ton of food I ate, thank you too.

For those of us who plan to watch the debate in real-time on Friday, please share any ideas about how to make the event social. If not, we can all blog/email about it endlessly the next day --- or during.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

next sunday

I will be flying home from England at 7:25pm (allegedly). Yes, it's optimistic to think I could join you for dinner but you never know--customs had been faster since 9/11 (i'm serious!). So if people are feeling flexible and want to meet at 7:30 or even 8 (ok, ok, 7:30?) in hopes that I can join half way through, that'd be awesome! Someone can text me where you'll be.

Friday, September 12, 2008

Everyone see Matt Damon on Palin?

I posted to Facebook, but just in case:

Matt Damon Condemns Palin

So much fun, though will probably make no difference whatsoever.

I was for the Bridge to Nowhere before I was against it.

Here's everybody's favorite Vice-Presidential candidate holding up a t-shirt in support of the bridge back when she was running for governor.

special dinner sunday?

I have an itch to cook a 5-course Northern Italian dinner of filet mignon. Would be nice to do it with you guys, and while it's still nice out, in case we could eat outside. Also some blend of Peter and I are out for a few of the subsequent SND's. So I'm thinking this Sunday. Do people want to do this at my place this Sunday, if everyone is in? It would cost $10 + wine each. I have no investment in doing this as an SND if people would rather stick to restaurants--I can do this on a non SND too, but wanted to put this out there as an offer.

First Sunday in September...

Sorry. I'm obsessed with this picture.
So, Sunday? It's the Open final, which most of us will probably want to watch at some point. We could:
1) meet late pm and watch/hang/eat together at either a bar or apt
2) meet normal time and employ the DVR
3) meet on the late side (post-Open)
Who's in? And for which option?

I'm Tense

Lots of questions: Anyone around Sunday evening to unwind? Should we move dinner to Monday, which I think we did last year for Labor Day weekend? If we go to Habana Outpost at all, this might be the weekend. There's also Beast. Someone may have already suggested that. Outdoor seating, tapas, Prospect Heights. http://brooklynbeast.com/

I thought Sara started the blog about this weekend, but it seems to have disappeared. Or did I imagine it all?

Lastly, is it possible to drink away the knot in my stomach? Or will that just linger until Nov 5?

This is how I feel about the amount of activity on the blog lately.

Bollywood Romeo

I, like Jackie, have had no luck posting a YouTube video (though it keeps telling me it's working). Anyway, this is less elegant, but check it out: I saw this trailer before the Bollywood movie I saw last night. It's Nath's dog! Only cartoon and Indian!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwxuKY24edU#

Middle of August

Here's what I know about this weekend: All the boys are out. I have to go to a baby shower that starts UES at 5:30, so I could potentially still show up but probably pretty late -- although who doesn't want an excuse to get out of a baby shower? Claude, Sara? Brekke, back from paradise?

Nothing Clever to Say, So This Sunday?

I know Brek's out, surfing it up in Hawaii, but I'm finally back in town. Who's around?

Monday, August 4, 2008

The General Greene Reviewed in NY Magazine this week

Read the review, and then comment on your experiences. I, sadly, did not eat. But I am a huge fan of the Pink Panacea.

Farm House Bound

I just wanted to extend a formal invite to anyone from SND to come up to the farm house when we're there, between Monday August 11th and Sunday August 17th. Peter will be with me for the whole week (starting Aug 9, but my family will be there that weekend only), and Moose and probably Adam will join for the final wknd (15-17). Let me know by, say, this Wednesday if you wanna come for any of those days--you can take the bus to Monticello, 30 minutes East, where we'd fetch you. Friends and S.O.'s welcome too!

Olympics?

Just wondering about this whole Beijing thing coming up. I'm not a big Olympics-watcher (I know, shocking) but I do enjoy watching the occasional sporting event when I'm surrounded by friends and potato chips. So, just wondering if there are any events that are worth getting together to watch? I'm open to suggestion here. Gymnastics, maybe? This is probably the only way I'm going to remember to watch anything...

Monday, July 28, 2008

Here comes August!

So who's in this Sunday? I believe the consensus was to try The General Greene this week. Sound good?

Also - check out this piece in the City section yesterday about the new restaurant that opened on my corner. A little pricey for SND - but interesting nonetheless. and cute owners!

Your Face on Facebook

I just posted all my SND pics from the past year on Facebook. I filled the first album so had to start a second. I tagged no one. So go on and tag away because there are some winners!

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I'm so bummed. I can't figure out how to upload video on to this thing, so I just have to send the link. Anyone remember how in college Brekke said that I look like Beaker. Well, click on the link below and see for yourself. The resemblance is amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpcUxwpOQ_A

This one's for the ladies

This was on Jezebel today, and I just thought it was funny.

A modest proposal

In accordance with the economic downturn, I'm embarking on some serious budget cutbacks for myself. OK, it's not really in accordance with that, only my own fiscal irresponsibility. Anyway: I'm proposing that we try really hard to find places with cheap-ish menus. I thought the Ethiopian place was pretty good - anything where the bill ends up $25 or lower is good to aim for, I think. (Anything less than that, these days, seems nearly impossible.) That said, I don't want to curtail anyone's good time, so if there's someplace people really want to go that's pricier, you should - I may or may not opt out for that week. Anyway, in the interest of furthering the budget eating, I suggest perusing New York's cheap eats guide - which includes a new place in my hood that I haven't been to yet, The General Greene, which features an $11 burger. For this Sunday, maybe?

A new day

I feel like this Sunday is the beginning of SND 2.0. Maybe it was the celebratory air of SND at the Cyclones, or maybe it's the fact that we have reached mid summer and hopefully more people will be in town.

So who's in on Sunday and who is throwing out ideas for where to eat?

Monday, July 7, 2008

SND: The Weekend

This is kind of like a whole weekend of SND. It's been ages since we've all been together, but I think we're getting there this weekend, no? I know Sara's out for Cyclones, but we also have Nathaniel's garden party on Saturday night. I couldn't be more excited.

Peter, please extend Cyclone invite to David and Miranda. No one else has been offered the tickets.

Here's to everyone having a great week. See you all Saturday and/or Sunday.

Ending Fireworks Week

In Boerum Hill at least, the fireworks started last night. Coulda been gun shots, think it was fireworks—strictly because of the time of year. I assume the fireworks will end on Sunday. So, is there an SND to celebrate the grand finale of the booms? Is anyone able to meet? I must finish my second draft of Murder Mystery by Sunday, so I don't know if I'll be in or out. If I am in, is there an in to be in.

SND...LA!

Hi everyone on the east coast. Sara and I just wanted you to know that SND was alive and well on Venice Beach tonight. We had delicious sushi on Abbot Kinney, took a little stroll on the beach, and then drove home to Bev Hills. Not too shabby, though we missed you all!

xxoo

Pride = No SND

We're going to cancel this week, but I'm here next Sunday 7/6 if anyone else is available. Go Homo Day!

Gratuitous proud aunt post

This is officially condoned by Brekke, I'd just like to add. Anyway: how cute is my nephew??

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

And summer rolls on....

Sara, Chris, Nathaniel and I had a lovely SND at that pizza place on DeKalb and Vanderbilt. The pizza was delicious - the service, not so much.

So who's in this weekend? I know Claudia is away, and it looks like Jackie and Kyle are out. What about the rest of you? And whose turn is it to pick a place? Or should we go to the place Sara suggested last week that was scrapped last minute?

Monday, June 16, 2008

Sunday, June 22

That's our one-year anniversary, right? I know we were talking about doing something big, but given we're not all going to be here, I feel like we should postpone that. Anyway, my suggestion last night was Kif, the new restaurant on Dekalb in Fort Greene... I haven't tried the grilled-lamb sliders there (nor will I, probably) but I have it on good authority they're delicious. Let me know your thoughts...

Thanks for Voting, SND!

I just quit my job this morning, thanks to the support of my fellow SNDers! I will return to who I truly am -- a poverty-stricken gypsy with no ambition and pissy health insurance -- on July 18. (I gave 6-weeks notice.) Thanks again, SND, for supporting a direction-less life!!!

My suggestion for next weekend, since I'm on the blog and all even though it's so early in the week, is Coco Roco, a Peruvian place on Smith Street with a garden in the back: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/coco_roco/

Friday, June 6, 2008

What about this weekend?

Any ideas for this Sunday?

SND: The Anniversary — JUNE 22 [Observed]

We first gathered at Bogota almost one year ago, not yet realizing that we were about to change the world, on June 24, 2007. I am definitely heartened to have been a part of an incredible year of SNDs: the laughs, the tears, the gas, the 3...

So I'm officially asking for SND suggestions for the anniversary. Do we return to the scene of the crime (my preference) and go back to Bogota? Make it our annual anniversary location? Or does someone have an even better idea on how best to mark the moment?

AND LEST WE FORGET OUR PROMISE...
Tanoreen = Genius
We promised to vote so here are the links:

Memorial Day

So are we definitely planning a Monday night thing, then? I'm trying to decide whether to go to Rockport for the weekend, but am kind of leaning toward not- if I have a fun BBQ to look forward to it'll definitely push me more to the staying-here side.

Also: was shocked, SHOCKED to see that the Indiana Jones movie got a few good reviews today. One of which is in my own paper!!

Monday, May 12, 2008

The return of Jackie and Kyle?

Is that this Sunday? I certainly hope so. We should go somewhere special to celebrate.

Nathaniel and I (barely) kept SND alive yesterday by going to Franny's. It was delicious.

I'm going to need a few drinks this week to get over Speed Racer. Keep the condolences coming!

Wednesday, May 7, 2008

It's mid May, people!

So, who's on for this Sunday? I think we might have a shot at everyone except J&K....
I'm not sure what the forecast is, but if it's like today, I vote for outdoorish!

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

SND resumes?

Now that the weekend hangovers have died down, it's time to think about the next SND which, I am hoping and assuming, will be this weekend? Where should we go? It'll be Brekke's inaugural dinner as a Brooklyn resident so maybe we should go someplace a) near her and b) iconic of the borough. Hmm. Any thoughts?

Thursday, April 24, 2008

RIP Barfry

I just wanted to take time out during this busy wedding week to announce the closing of one of our SND locales - Barfry. Apparently we weren't the only ones who got gas.

Is this the first place where we have dined that has gone under? Should someone prepare some remarks for the next SND?

Monday, April 14, 2008

The Seven

It was so fun having us all together again. Despite my well documented issues last night, I would highly recommend Kombit. They clearly get what SND is all about.

So I believe it's just Sara, Claudia and me this Sunday. Girls - any thoughts?

Friday, April 11, 2008

Random movie plug

I'm working on a story about this movie right now, which actually came out on Wednesday. I can't recommend it enough. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to go to Northampton and give them all hugs.

Monday, April 7, 2008

Let's try again....

Shall we convert the suggestions for this past Sunday into ones for this coming Sunday? Who's in town and available?

On a shamelessly unrelated note, this is a view from one (yes, one of two) of Nora and my hotel suite's balconies in Jamaica, mon...

Friday, April 4, 2008

So Where Are We Eating on 4/6??

I think Tripoli is out owing to my general eh-ness on the cuisine and Peter's desire to stick close to his home.

Suggestions/critics picks in Park Slope:

Geido for sushi:
http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/geido/

Kombit Creole for Caribbean fare (a salute to Claude who is in Jamaica, mon):
http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/kombit-creole/

OR for a more romantic SND, Rosewater:
http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/rose_water/

ORRRR!!! WE CAN TRY THIS:

Springing into Action

So, now that the season has started, I wanted to post the Yankees schedule and see if any dates in particular were good/bad for people. The first date Jackie and I could realistically do a home Sunday game is May 25th against Seattle, an afternoon game. Then, Kansas City June 8th and Cincinnati June 22nd. Here is a link to the Schedule. Once we come up with a date (or a few dates), I can call the ticketing office and order 7 tickets.

Hair of the Dog

I sound like a wuss to say that I still expect to be hung over on Sunday, after Friday's "hen" party, but since I do, I'd like to vote for Mexican -- for the margaritas and the beer and shot. Lobos on Court has a great big table on the second floor perfect for us -- even though it's a bit further from the Lobos on Fifth. Bottom line: I'd like to vote for cheap, greasy, and boozy for this SND.

Stuff White People Like....

This is my new favorite website, shared already with Claude. When showing it to who I consider the ultimate in white people, my sister Anne, #91 showed up as the most recent post. Claude, I'm nothing short of both #87 and #91 right now!

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/

Easter Bonnie's?

Far flung from SND, still wheezing from our lamb, peas, and roasted potato dinner. Oh, and the double chocolate chip bundt cake. I want to barf, yet, I also want to hear of SND. How was your dinner, all of y'all? Here's a cute photo from our sad, totes working-class Easter egg hunt. I quote my nephew, "When is my real Easter egg hunt?" Um....

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

In other last-Sunday discussion topics...

Props to David Paterson for being funny, self-effacing, and most importantly pre-emptive by announcing the affairs before some newspaper (ahem) could dig them up. Love him.

Monday, March 17, 2008

From Our Lips...

There's a piece about dining at South Pole station — just when I was complaining about the food! So I guess SND can go to the Antarctic for its international flavor tour. We are so on the culinary pulse.

PS Dinner was not delicious, I admit, but I had a fantastic time. The red velvet cake is almost entirely devoured by the Men's Journal staff.

Monday, March 10, 2008

Beware the ides of March...

In the Roman calendar, the term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other 8 months.

In modern times, the term Ides of March (Latin Idus Martiae) is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated, in 44 BC, the story of which was famously retold in William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. The term has come to be used as a metaphor for impending doom.

SO WHERE SHALL WE EAT?

People feeling the Roman vibe? The Gallic vibe?

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Son of Sam, and us

And we move forward....to dinner.

Thoughts for this coming Sunday? We're sans Peter-- maybe we should have Latin food to commemorate his absence? Any places we've been trying to get to?

Weigh in, please.

SNB (for Birthday)

Hi all-

Hope everyone enjoyed the Oscars. I was thrilled with our solo win for the incomparable Tilda Swinton. Could not have happened to a nicer person. And of course the performance of Falling Slowly and their win - plus the wonderful and heartfelt acceptance speeches by Glen and Marketa - made my night. And to top it off I won both Oscar pools at the party I attended.

So now on to this Sunday. I would like to go to that pizza place that is supposed to be one of the best in the country. I think Kyle knows what and where it is. Just want to make sure they serve wine!

I miss you all and can't wait to celebrate with you. Is everyone here this week? Could it be???

Oscar Excitement Continues

I have already begun preparations for tomorrow evening. I'm making lasagna from scratch (including the pasta), and I hope it turns out well. The thing I most excited about, however, is getting to see the stars of Once perform "Falling Slowly" live. Here's a cute item from Sunday Styles on Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

Until tomorrow, my friends!

OSCAR UPDATE

Time: 6pm on (for pre-show, natch)
Place: Brek's (333 E. 17th street #2B)

Brekke and I are making two main dishes and a dessert. We'll definitely need booze and snacks. Weigh in on what you'd like to bring and, if it's in question, who you'd like to bring (Chris, etc..)

Sunday, February 17, 2008

This is the one I meant to post. I'll stop now.
I was really down before I met up with y'all tonight. Physically and mentally I felt like crap. But after some good friends and good conversation -- and three beers, two shots, and a brownie sundae -- I feel a lot better (which I feel guilty about since Claudia feels worse). But I thought I'd thank you with a little Sophie love.

This Sunday and Redhook

So car-owners, what is the plan? I'd love to nail down our timing for this Sunday. The idea is Good Fork and Sunny's, right?

Monday, February 11, 2008

La Oscars....

Just following up (and including Brek) on our Academy Awards discussion from last night...

Who's in for our SND DOES THE OSCARS night?!?!

Brek: we discussed (obviously) doing it at either Nathan's or your place, for reasons of space. Interested? Not interested?

Once we settle on location, let's talk booze and nosh allocation.

Monday, February 4, 2008

This Coming Sunday...and did I win?

Hi SNDers.
Is it possible that we might all be available this Sunday? Let's weigh in. Also, can some check the comments from the previous pool post and confirm my suspicion that I might have won? How awesome and bizarre would that be?

See some of you for mid-week Super Tuesday SND.

Super Bowl Prediction Smack-Down

This is where we all post our predictions about the score of the game.

Please refrain from any strategic moves and vote what you actually believe in your heart of hearts will be the final score. I cynically predict utter dominance by the team I hate most in the NFL right now. I will be happy to be proven wrong. Sadly, as I indicated last night I won't be able to make the first half of the game, but Jackie and I will be dropping by some time in the middle of the Eagles half-time medley. The tiebreaker is to predict the total number of yards by both teams combined. Five dollars each in the pot.

New England Patriots 40 New York Giants 7.
725 yards total offense.

SND does the Super Bowl

Well last night was simply divine - good to have SND back and in full swing.

So let's discuss the Super Bowl. I'll definitely do homemade guacamole and chips, and probably chips and onion dip. And maybe chocolate chip cookies too.

Let me know what you'd like to make/buy for the occasion.

State of the SND

Beginning to feel as if this is my own personal blog, but... are we doing dinner this Sunday? Or is SND, like, so 2007?

Save the date

Wanted to just pass this along to you before I email the non-SND crowd: next Thursday, the 24th, I'm having my annual drinks and cupcakes gathering at Keybar. You can call it a birthday thing, or you can call it a celebration of the most depressing day of the year - whichever. Would love to see you all there.

SNDers in the news

Many thanks to Brekke, who helped me with my gender-divide-in-the-workplace story. Of course, I originally wanted to write it about the detrimental nature of gender stereotypes in the office... and somehow it ended up massaged into this. Ah, journalism. Still: tasty quotes from Ms. Fletcher.

OUR NON-SND, NON-GOLDEN GLOBES EVENT

This Sunday will be held in a non-formal capacity (those who are rules-obsessed may determine whether this is officially an SND or not...) at Brekke's. Dips will be involved. David Chalian, fresh from his whirlwind primary tour, will also be involved. Come over and dip and complain about the lack of red-carpet tackiness starting at 7pm.

MLK WEEKEND

Hi all -

It's been a little quiet on the SND blog in the new year - so it's time to ramp it up a notch!

Nathaniel and I would like to go up to the farmhouse next weekend for the holiday - and we would love for SND to join us. The current plan is to go up on Sat 1/19 and return on Monday 1/21. It's very close - just a little over a 2 hour drive - and there's plenty of room. The flies seem to have all but disappeared (but don't quote me on that).

Here's what I know: Claude is not in town. Mustafa plans to join us...

...which leaves Brekke, Sara, Jackie and Kyle. Let us know what you're thinking! Come on - don't be shy and don't make excuses!

Golden Globes have been cancelled

or so I am hearing. So it looks like I am free this Sunday for regular SND. Claudia - your dips will have to be saved for another day!

Brekke and Kyle - I hope you both are feeling better.

Oh and I wanted to post last night's quote of the evening. It came from Nathaniel - but I am having trouble remembering it. Anyone?
